What could be a more appropriate representation of the city that never sleeps than this ingenious time lapse by Philip Stockton of the Barbarian Group, which melds footage of the same scenes taken in both light and darkness?

As Emma Hutchings at PSFK explained:

Stockton spent around 2-3 months producing the video after work and at weekends. He would stay for 4-8 hours filming day and night scenes around New York City. Then he combined them back into single sequences using rotoscoping techniques to create a mix of night and day in the same shot, exploring the relationships between the different times.

Some people just aren’t satisfied with a simple jack-o-lantern and basket on the porch anymore and have to be the house on the block that everyone’s talking about come Halloween night.

For the DIY crowd with a flair for the dramatic (and enough common sense to make sure kids can’t get anywhere near this contraption), there’s the candy cannon designed by Grant Thompson, which ensures you’ll show up all the neighbors and be picking candy out of the gutters for the next year or so.

The beauty of the Swiss Alps has taken a backseat to the wilds of Iceland in recent years, but that doesn’t mean this corner of the globe doesn’t offer up some breathtaking views thanks to the skillful direction of Alessandro Della Bella in “Helvetia’s Dream.”

Particularly stunning are the views of the cities at night from high above the clouds and a glimpse of a meteor streaking over Tijerflue Mountain in Arosa, the director’s hometown.

Enjoy.
