Many professionals get jazzed up after reading a social media article, but the excitement and strategy escape as soon as the page is minimized and they move on to the next enticing link in their Twitter feed. I see it all too often: a quick high followed by complete memory loss on what they have just read. How can you put these tidbits of social media advice to work in the real world?

Yes, your brand is interesting. Now keep them interested. Content marketing isn’t just for the Fortune 500. Effective social media isn’t reserved for the companies with 20-plus staffers in their communications department. But your social strategy isn’t going to be served to you on a silver platter. Social media is fun to talk about, tough to implement and an even bigger challenge for companies to be creative and stay consistent. If you don’t change your actions, you are destined to get the same results.

Believe it or not, there is more than one way to roast a turkey. First, you must ask yourself what you really want. I’ll offer you three options: A fast, crisp-skinned bird, moist and not overcooked, served with roasted vegetables; a leisurely braised bird, also with veggies; or the classic stand-up roast, presented beautifully in all its glory, prepared in a straightforward manner.

If you want speed and don’t mind a novel look, choose the flattened bird, which employs a method that goes by the quaint name of spatchcocking. It takes a little work at first, because it’s a little more physical than other techniques: you have to remove the backbone, flatten the breast and dislocate the thigh joints from their sockets. None of this is difficult, but it may be a bit much for some. The reward is a lovely roasted bird with a not-overcooked breast and perfectly done legs; it also cooks in about an hour — yes, you read that right: an hour. The downside, apart from the butchering, is that some might consider it weird-looking.

Read the rest of this article here, and get the recipes here (braised), here (split-roasted) and here (classic).

Critical thinking: It sounds like something college professors do.

And while critical-thinking skills are vital to academic research, they are equally important in the business environment. As you look to increase visibility and influence in the workplace, you need to become the professor of critical thinking for your team. Critical thinking is basically a questioning process. Here are three questions that will encourage employees to start thinking critically about their actions.

Nasty germs swap DNA behind noses

Genetic exchange of antibiotic resistance occurs about 10 million times more effectively in the nose than in the blood of animals, report researchers.

"We found that the bacteria make biofilms in the nose that protect against the action of antibiotics, which have a hard time destroying biofilms," says Anders P. Hakansson of the University at Buffalo.

"In addition, we know that some of the bacteria have to die in order to develop good biofilms. So dead bacteria help create good biofilms and provide DNA that other bacteria can take up and use, which is how bacteria spread antibiotic resistance and become more fit."

Scientists have found 3,356 natural gas leaks—six of which with concentrations high enough to cause an explosion—under Boston’s streets.

“While our study was not intended to assess explosion risks, we came across six locations in Boston where gas concentrations exceeded the threshold above which explosions can occur,” says Nathan Phillips, associate professor at Boston University.

Scientists have used computer simulations to solve a long-standing mystery: what accounts for Earth’s core density?

The simulations shows that Earth’s core contains 0.1-0.8 percent carbon, the largest reservoir of carbon on the planet.

“We played with about 260 atoms to try to simulate Earth’s formation,” says UC Davis geology professor and study co-author Qing-Zhu Yin. “We assigned them their basic properties and let the quantum mechanics do the work in the computer."
