For those of us who live in areas where unwanted flora grows with a vengeance, the only practical solution that doesn’t involve industrial grade weedkiller would be to farm ourselves some new furnishings!
That’s the idea behind Werner Aisslinger’s creation “Chair Farm,” the prototype of which includes a steel corset the plant grows into and a greenhouse that provides conditions to hasten the maturation process.
the berlin and singapore-based designer and architect believes giving everyone the possibility of becoming a producer of agricultural products will be the future in regard to quality and sustainability. with this, he thought of way to invert the creation and development of furniture from globalized serial manufacturing to a resource-conserving local production. that is how 'chair farm' was conceived. it is aisslinger's vision of how this idea could be realized within an agricultural lab.
We're just thinking how much time could be saved by not having to keep trimming and/or ripping out unwanted foliage and becoming the positive subject of neighborhood yard gossip for once; sure, the lawn might be littered with dandelions but who can compete with homegrown patio furniture?
